No matter the results, the last weekend of April was a special one for the East Syracuse Minoa track and field teams, since both of them would make their way to Philadelphia and compete in the historic Penn Relays at Franklin Field.
To accommodate that trip, the Spartans had its league meet last Tuesday, and recorded lopsided victories over Oswego, with the girls prevailing 97-43 and the boys defeating the Buccaneers 125-15.
Mackenzie Bourdon paced the girls Spartans as she roared to first place in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.1 seconds and claimed the 400 hurdles in 1:17.1, while also earning a victory in the shot put by throwing it 30’4 ½”.
Sami Wysocki was first in both the 200-meter dash (28.3 seconds) and 400-meter dash (1:07.3), with Mia Montgomery taking the 100-meter dash in 13.5 seconds. Jennah Ferrari cleared 7 feet in the pole vault and 4’6” to win the high jump, while Lindsey Crego threw the discus 92’11”.
Melanie DeFeo, in addition to winning the 800-meter run in 2:44.5, helped ESM’s 4×800 relay team take first place in 14:04.2. Montgomery was with the 4×100 side that posted 55 seconds flat as Bourdon and Wysocki helped complete the relay sweep, the Spartans taking the 4×400 in 4:48.6.
In the boys meet, ESM had Isaiah Brooks go 16.0 seconds in the 110 high hurdles before he cleared 5’8” to win the high jump. David Agans claimed first in the 100 sprint in 11.8 seconds. Tyler Hodge would claim the 400 sprint in 57 seconds flat as Connor Hillman took the 400 hurdles in 1:06.9.
Nick Berg ran the mile in 4:52.3 to edge Nolan Byrd (4:57.5) for the top spot, adding a 3,200-meter victory in 10:45.3, again with Byrd in second place. Jared Henry got his turn in the 800, prevailing in 2:17.5 over Nate Castor (2:17.9). ESM also swept the 4×100 (46.8 seconds), 4×400 (4:17.4) and 4×800 (10:37.3) relays.
Gabe Holloman threw the shot put 41’6”, but his discus throw of 102’3” was topped by Emir Karic (115’4”) and Gavin Stevens (106’3”). Greg Buck was first in the long jump, going 18’6”, while Hunter Bruner went 38’2 ½” to win the triple jump. Jesse Hodge cleared 8 feet in the pole vault as Rushov Chatterjee (7’6”) was second.
Jamesville-DeWitt stayed unbeaten in the OHSL Freedom division by handling Fowler on Wednesday. The J-D girls beat Fowler 110-31 as Alexandria Payne managed wins in four different events.
Payne roared to first in the 100 hurdles in 15.3 seconds and then won the 100 sprint in 12.7 seconds. A third title for Payne came in the 400 sprint, where she finished in 1:03.9, and a fourth win came with a season-best long jump of 17’9 ½”.
Abby Palin prevailed in the 1,500 over Grace Bridge and Ayla Erwin, with Olivia Budelmann winning the 800 in 2;39.9 and Samantha Aikin victorious in the 3,000. Lauren Nandal threw the shot put 28’10” to win that event.
Also, the Rams claimed the 4×400 (4:45.1) and 4×800 (11:19.9) relays as Gabrielle Tanksley cleared 8 feet in the pole vault and Laetticia Bazile topped 4’8” in the high jump.
J-D’s boys won 124-17 over Fowler,
David Fikhman’s great work in sprints continued as he went 100 meters in 11 seconds flat. Tyler Gabriel roared to first in the 400 sprint in 55.1 seconds, while Murad Amurlayev beat Seth Blair, 23.9 seconds to 24.2, in the 200. Ryan Bradford claimed the 110 hurdles in 15.6 seconds.
Joe DiDomenico would beat the field in the mile in 5:07.8, with Mike Sizing second and Nick Mannion third. Sam Glisson, in 2:22.9, edged Kaleel Boykins (2:23.4) and Fidel Martinez (2:25.5) in the 800 as Patrick Dye won the 3,200 in 10:38.4, with Alan Gao second and Boykins third.
Henry Middleton was victorious in the shot put with a throw of 38’2” and had a top discus throw of 108’3” as Jack Esposito was second in both events. Amurlayev unleashed a top long jump of 22’2” and Bradford went 39’8” in the triple jump, with Ben McCardle and Chris Lust both clearing 10’6” in the pole vault. Also, the Rams won the 4×100 in 44.6 seconds, claimed the 4×400 in 4:10.4 and took the 4×800 in 9:40 flat.
