A second school record for Megan Delia helped the West Genesee girls track and field team to a sixth-place finish amid an elite field at last Friday’s Chittenango Invitational.
Delia, who broke the school mark in the triple jump earlier this season, now turned her attention to the 400-meter hurdles at Chittenango. In a time of one minute, 6.81 seconds, Delia edged Baldwinsville’s Shylea Dukat (1:06.83) for the victory and also posted the fastest time in that event in Section III this spring.
All told, WG had 42 points at Chittenango, just behind fifth-place Niskayuna (44 points) as Fayetteville-Manlius won with 139 points. The boys Wildcats picked up six points as Marcellus also competed and, with 14 points, was 11th in the 22-team field.
During the 4×800 relay, WG’s quartet of Carly Benson, Kendall Dombroske, Emily Young and Amanda Lowther finished in 9:59.65, beating everyone except F-M, who pulled away and won in 9:43.18. Young also ran in the featured Fleet Feet Mile and got seventh place in 5:12.83.
Delia, who was fifth in the triple jump (33 feet 8 ¾ inches), helped WG’s 4×100 relay team, which included Talia Burris, Kelsey Fox and Caitlin Mills, get third place in 51.72 seconds. In the 4×400, the Wildcats again were third as Fox, Abby Kuppinger, Katherine Graziano and Mikeayla DeJesus posted 4:19.33.
Anna Chwiejczak finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.99 seconds. Dombroske was fifth in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 7:53.16, while Mills took fifth in the 100-meter dash in 13.41 seconds.
Kuppinger made it to sixth place in the 800-meter run in 2:31 flat, with Mia Mitchell needing exactly 10:50 to take sixth place in the 3,000-meter run. Madalyn Benson was seventh in the 400 hurdles (1:14.79) behind Delia’s record time.
Marcellus had its best finishes in the pole vault, where Sam Stearns cleared 12 feet for third place as Central Square’s Joe Weaver won, clearing 14’6”, and in the triple jump, where Caleb Wetherell went 40’5”, not far from the winning 40’11 ¾” from Phoenix’s Jake Hart.

WG’s lone six points in the boys event came from David Leff, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, as he finished in a time of 9:52.14 to take third place. Andrew Berry was 13th in the 100 sprint.
