It hasn’t taken long for the Skaneateles track and field teams to jump to the front of the OHSL Liberty National division standings.
Both of the Lakers sides moved to 2-0 last Wednesday afternoon at Hyatt Stadium, with the girls rolling past the Solvay Bearcats 107-30 by winning all but two of the individual events, plus sweeping the relays.
Raenah Campbell won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.1 seconds over Brady Iles (17.6). Then, in the 400 hurdles, Campbell needed 1:07.8 to pull away from Iles (1:13.7) for a second title as Sierra Sander was third in 1:15.6.
To make it three individual titles, Campbell tore through the 200-meter dash in 27 seconds flat, followed by Maddie Peterson (27.6) and Shannan Roberts (28.5). Peterson went from there to pair with Iles, Mia Grasso and Graeson Landsberg to win the 4×400 relay in 4:36.0.
A close 100-meter dash saw Angela Krause edge Emme Conan, 13.1 seconds to 13.2. Moving to the long jump, Krause went 15 feet 2 inches to beat Roberts (14’2”), and in the triple jump Krause claimed a third title with a top leap of 31’11”.
Natalie Condon claimed the 1,500-meter run in 5:20 flat, with Georgia McSwain third in 5:45.5. Condon tacked on a victory in the 800-meter run in 2:35.4, again with McSwain third behind Solvay’s Jordyn Willsey.
Grasso, in a time of 1:02.3, led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 400-meter dash ahead of Katie Olsen (1:13.5) and Claire Raddant (1:13.7), Julia Willcox, joined by Olsen, Roberts and Nicole DeRosa, claimed the 4×800 relay in 10:52.4. Conan, Krause, Peterson and Shay McCarthy went 51.9 seconds to prevail in the 4×100.
Becca Rottger claimed the discus with a throw of 76’ ½” ahead of Makayla Dickinson (75’3”) and Ali Grant (72’9 ½”), with Dickinson second and Grant third in the shot put behind Solvay’s Ashley Bosco, who heaved it 39’1”. Willcox cleared 4’6” in the high jump and Lyda Buck topped 8 feet in the pole vault.
In the boys meet, Skaneateles put together an 83-58 victory over Solvay. Chase Corcoran threw the discus 131’6” to win that event, and added a title in the shot put with a toss of 38’10 ¾”
Luke Rathgeb beat the field in the mile in 5:09.4, with Connor Gell second in 5:44.1. Then Rathgeb claimed the 3,200-meter run in 11:06.6, with Sam McClintic second in 11:52.3 and Nick Paciorek third. Jon Metz cleared 8’6” in the pole vault, with Jeff Palmer topping 8 feet.
Joe Capozza, in 54.7 seconds, edged Ben Kringer (54.9) in the 400 sprint, with Capozza second and Cross Bianchi third in the 200. Paciorek needed 1:05.8 to hold off Solvay’s Dylon Ewers (1:06.7) in the 400 hurdles. Alex Wulff (2:14.7) and McClintic (2:15.0) went 1-2 in the 800
Bianchi, Palmer, Metz and Matt Leveroni claimed the 4×100 relay in 47.5 seconds as Metz, Wulff, Kringer and McClintic took the 4×800 in 9:51.5. Brahm Malcolm won the 110 high hurdles in 16.6 seconds as Metz, Wulff, Palmer and Leveroni rolled to first in the 4×400 in 3:57.6.
