Though the sun was out, it was still cold and windy when the West Genesee track and field teams went to Bragman Stadium to take part in last Saturday’s Cicero-North Syracuse Relays.
The Wildcats would finish fourth on the boys side, earning 48 points, while on the girls side WG settled for sixth place and 24 points. In both instances, the host C-NS Northstars claimed the team titles.
Chris McAfee not only gave WG an individual victory in the shot put with a toss of 44 feet, he paired with Evan Tuthill, who was third (42’1”), to win the event at 86’1”, five feet ahead of runner-up Baldwinsville’s 81’1”.
Not content with that, the Wildcats also won the discus as Tuthill unleashed the best throw of the meet at 129’9”, nearly 14 feet ahead of everyone else. The combined distances of 221’11” by Tuthill and Cole Nowark was just ahead of B’ville’s 219’4”.
David Leff won the individual boys mile in four minutes, 28.78 seconds, even if he and teammates Ryan Dunning, Matt Bartolotta and Joe Parisi could only get fifth place in the team event in 19:55.87. Leff, Dunning, Esisas Brumfield and Andrew Berry went 3:47.10 in the distance medley relay to get third place.
Brumfield, Andrew Berry Mark Kopp and Javier Monserrate, were second in the 4×100 relay (46.68 seconds) as C-NS won in 44.97. Monserrate, Kopp, Griffin Dombroske and Paul Stannard went 3:45.25 to get third place in the 4×400 relay. Tim Huppman and Nathan Brien were third in the 400 hurdles in a combined 2:08.10.
Mia Mitchell and Kendall Dombroske, paired with Amanda Lowther and Natalie Buckout, were second in the 1,500-meter run relay in 21:49.25, behind only Jamesville-DeWitt (20:59.84) in the standings. Later, in the 4×800, Dombroske, Buckout, Mitchell and Lowther posted 10:46.61, topped only by CBA, who won in 10:25.32.
In the 4×100, the Wildcats were third as Talia Burris, Abigail Kuppinger, Shelby Kiteveles and Thi Tran finished in 54.94 seconds; WG also had Anna Chwiejczak and Olivia Becker take sixth in the 100 hurdles in a combined 39.78 seconds, with the Wildcats seventh in the 4×400 (4:56.48). Elizabeth Jones and Etana Davis were sixth in the shot put with total throws of 51’10”.
