Almost everything went right for the Baldwinsville track and field teams during last Saturday’s appearance in the Cicero-North Syracuse Relays at Bragman Stadium, except for finishing on top.
The girls Bees had 70 points, just behind the hosts from C-NS, who won with 82 points. On the boys side, it was just the same, as B’ville’s 56 points topped everyone in the 14-team field except the Northstars, who won with 99 points.
Adrianna Straughter set the tone for the B’ville girls, winning the individual 100-meter hurdles in 17.15 seconds and, with Abigail Scherfling, taking the team event with 36.22 seconds to 36.61 for runner-up Corcoran. In the high jump, Straughter cleared 4 feet 8 inches as she and Karen Ekure were second (8’10”) behind Corcoran’s winning 9’6”.
Then Straughter, Ekure, Jordyn Boutilier and Emily Paul won the 4×100 relay in 53 seconds flat as no one else broke the 54-second mark. Mackenzie Wodka won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:15.65 as she and Mackenzie Randolph (2:40.98) were just behind C-NS (2:40.89) for the top spot.
Justus Holden-Betts, Sarah Rodman, Leah Carpenter and Anika Archer were third in the 1,500-meter relay with total times of 22:16.22. Holden-Betts, Ekure, Paul and Patricia Conlan went 4;38.25 in the sprint medley relay, second to South Lewis (4:30.37).
Danielle Marsell and Jenna Wallace threw the discus 171’9” between them, trailing only South Lewis (179 feet), and they were fourth in the shot put, with total throws of 52’11”. Boutilier helped the Bees finish fifth in the long jump as Marina Blasi and Mackenzie Randolph were fourth (56’10 ½”) in the triple jump.

Moving to the boys meet, B’ville took the mile relay as Adam Davis, Ben Timmons, Garrett Vannatta and Evan Biedermann had combined times of 19:11.89, well clear of Indian River, who was second in 19:24.10.
Tyler Luciano, Greg Porceng, Kieran Sheridan and Michael Lawrence won the 4×400, going 3:33.20 to pull away from C-NS (3:42.73) and the field. Later, in the sprint medley relay, Luciano, Sheridan, Porceng and Connor McManus finished in 3:45.58, a close second to C-NS, who won in 3:44.76, with Luciano and Austin Catalano fifth in the long jump.
Alex Garcia, second in the individual shot put (43’4”), paired with Anthony Sellers to get second place on the team side with 81’1” to West Genesee’s 86’1”. The discus repeated that pattern, with Judson Fletcher second, tossing it 115’10”, as he and Mike Spicer went 219’4” total, just behind WG’s winning 221’11”.
