Most of the Westhill-Bishop Ludden indoor track and field stars went to New York City’s Armory to compete in the Hispanic Games, where Cade VanOrnam ran his first mile under five minutes and Noelle Coolican cleared 10 feet in the girls pole vault.
Other Warrior athletes made the much shorter trip to SRC Arena for the afternoon session of last Saturday’s George Constantino Memorial Invitational, where Westhill-Ludden’s boys finished seventh in a 14-team field with 35 points and the girls also were seventh, earning 22 points on its end.
Sean Corbett, with a shot put toss of 43 feet ½ inch, beat Baldwinsville’s Judson Fletcher (43 feet) by half an inch for the top spot, and then won the weight throw with a heave of 42’7”, well clear of Skaneateles’ Chase Corcoran (37’11”) in second place. Conner Schwartz was fifth in the triple jump, going 36’8” as Ben Eassa (36’5 ¼”) finished seventh.
Will Remillard, Brendan Rewakowski, Owen Hoyne and Mike Ferrara got to fourth place in the 4×800 relay in 10:34.14. Westhill-Ludden was sixth in the 4×400 relay in 4:07.89 and eighth (1:47.01) in the 4×200 relay.
The girls Warriors mostly got points from the pole vault, where Ashley Heffernan won by clearing 8 feet and Sarah Thompson (7 feet) was third. The Warriors were also fifth in the 4×400 relay as Heffernan, Thompson, Emily O’Reilly and Ashley Weizalis posted 5:07.50. Kayla Helfeld took seventh place in the shot put, heaving it 25’11”.
A day earlier, Jordan-Elbridge went to Utica College’s Hutton Dome to take part in the third Mohawk Valley meet of the winter, where it scored 22 points to finish 11th out of 19 teams in the girls event and had 11 points in the boys meet to tie for 13th place.
The girls Eagles had its best finish in the pole vault, where Theresa Dristle cleared 7 feet 6 inches and got second place, only topped by Rome Free Academy’s Sydney Lewis, who won by clearing 8 feet.
In the 4×200 relay, J-E’s quartet ofEmma Burns, Meaghan Jackson, Madi Hatt and Kyler Langhorn got third place in 1:59.44. By herself, Burns made it to fourth place in the 600 in 1:48.81, while Maggie Dejohn was seventh in the 1,000 in 3:36 flat.
Theresa Dristle (12:03.79) pulled away from Mary Elizabeth Dristle (12:35.43) for eighth place in the 3,000. Meghan Whalen, Lindsay Jackson, Mia Delap and Shelby Milton were eighth (5:25.22) in the 4×400.
Among the J-E boys, Ethan Kinney stood out, getting fifth place in the 600 in a clocking of 1:30.27 and matching that finish in the 1,000 by posting 2:55.59. Ryan Chiaramonte, Logan Kinney, Dan Jorolemon and Matt Sheldon were sixth (9:57.42) in the 4×800 as Chiaramonte was 10th in the 55 hurdles in 9.53 seconds.
