With freshman Jenna Schulz recording a top-10 finish and plenty of helps from the likes of Vanessa Eberhard and Madison Neuner, the Liverpool girls cross country team claimed sixth place during Saturday’s New York State Federation championships at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls.
Overall, the Warriors had 226 points, topping all but five of the 27 teams gathered at Bowdoin Park. North Rockland (Section I) won with 75 points and Shenendehowa (Section II) was second with 125 points. West Genesee, the only other Section III team at the Federation meet, finished 18th with 473 points.
Schulz, who ran to 10th place during the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class A meet at Chenango Valley on Nov. 12, would match that placement at Bowdoin Park, finishing in 19 minutes, two seconds.
Three Section III runners were in the top 10 of the individual standings. Tully eighth-grader Brooke Rauber was fourth, in 18:33.1, while Camden seventh-grader Elizabeth Lucason got sixth place in 18:39.8. Saratoga Springs’ Kelsey Chmiel won in 18:10.2, repeating her triumph from Chenango Valley.
Meanwhile, Eberhard, a senior, helped the Warriors by finishing 26th in a clocking of 19:30.9, while Neuner, a sophomore, got 32nd place in 19:37.4.
Behind them,Liverpool sophomore Windsor Arner finished 126th in 21:08.6, while junior Natalie Kurz finished in 21:27.9 and senior Mallory Woytowicz posted 22:25.8.
