All of the work done by the Baldwinsville girls swim team will culminate next weekend at Nottingham High School, where the Section III championships will take place.
The Class A competition takes place Nov. 4 at noon, with the top times advancing to the overall sectional meet on Nov. 6, where berths in the Nov. 18-19 state championships at Ithaca College will be on the line.
Before all that, the Bees closed its regular season Wednesday night with a visit to West Genesee, which turned into a close meet not decided until the final race, when the Wildcats claimed the 400 freestyle relay in 4:07.74 and clinched the win, handing B’ville a 93-89 defeat.
Way back at the start of the meet, B’ville was triumphant in the 200 medley relay, where Erin Mordaunt, Anna DiOrio, Kaili Sacco and Julia Atkins posted a victory in 2:06.94.
From there, Staso went on to claim the 200 individual medley in 2:22.85, with DiOrio third in 2:33.53, and in the 100 breaststroke Staso gained another title in 1:11.63, one of her best times of the fall as Atkins gained third place in 1:18.25.
Allison Lange went 1:09.54 to prevail in the 100 backstroke, with McKenna Redmore third in 1:12.48. This followed a 200 freestyle relay where Staso, DiOrio, Mordaunt and Alyse Baker claimed first place in 1:49.07.
Mordaunt nearly won the 50 freestyle, going 27.73 seconds to finish just behind WG’s Hannah Kaminski (27.16 seconds). It was the same in the 100 butterfly, with Allison Lange going 1:11.43, just behind the Wildcats’ Mikki Riley (1:10.36).
Moving to the 100 freestyle, Mordaunt was second (1:01.39), edging out Baker (1:01.42) for that spot behind WG’s Maddie Zapisek (59.40 seconds), while in the 500 freestyle Clare Burke, in 5:54.78, was less than a second behind the Wildcats’ Abrianna Gittschau (5:54.47) as DiOrio finished third in 6:05.04.
