Even with the progress it has made throughout the 2016 season, the Skaneateles girls volleyball team still has run into difficulty against some of the Onondaga High School League’s better sides.
When the Lakers resumed action Thursday night, it played on even terms for a long while, dropping a close first 25-23, but then surviving several set points from the Trojans in the second set and claiming a 30-28 verdict to pull even at one set apiece.
In the third set, though, things turned against Skaneateles as Homer gained key points in the late going to win, 25-22, going on to put away the Lakers in a 25-14 fourth set that ended the match.
Defensively, Emma Goodell amassed 34 digs for the Lakers, while Cassidy Pitman earned nine assists and Sarah Delasin six assists, plus three aces. Jessica Patalino finished with nine kills, three aces and five blocks, while Mia Grasso had seven kills. Emily Baldwin had four assists, four digs and two kills.
Homer, to prevail and move to 12-4 on the season, Meleah Hartnett earned 24 assists and nine digs, her passes going to Deede Partigianoni, who had 12 kills and eight digs, and Gillian McEvoy, who got 10 kills and 11 digs. Cary Trierweiler (six kills, four digs, three aces) and Karly Roos (nine digs)h elped out.
With the loss, Skaneateles fell to 9-7 as it closes the regular season next week with matches against Phoenix and Cicero-North Syracuse.
