After getting swept at Marcellus on Oct. 5, the Chittenango cross country teams returned to the road a week later, and each of them were able to pick up lopsided wins over the Solvay Bearcats.
A clean sweep by the boys Bears resulted in a 15-50 victory, with Nango Abell leading the pack as he prevailed in 17 minutes, 11 seconds, just ahead of Karl Farber, who in 17:12 garnered the runner-up spot.
Mike Capeling made it to third place in 17:19, while Matt Morak was fourth in 17:24. Dave Gratien, in a clocking of 17:40, completed the top-five sweep, with Grant Czarnecki close behind in sixth place (17:50) as Caleb Seale was seventh in 17:57.
In the girls meet, Chittenango prevailed 20-49, even though Solvay’s Jordyn Willsey claimed the individual race in a time of 20:29, nearly two full minutes ahead of the Bears’ Devin Gordon, who led her side by finishing in 22:26.
Eryn Thompson finished third, in 24:14, just ahead of Sarah Lanning (24:18) in fourth place as Maddy Heller got fifth place in 24:22. Jada Sowich, who was sixth in 25:10 rounded out the scoring.
As a follow-up to beating Solvay, Chittenango would prevail over five other teams in the Large School division of last Saturday’s Tully Invitational, earning 34 points to top Fulton’s runner-up total of 45 points.
Though the Red Raiders’ Kenneth Deloff won the individual race in 16:33.7, the Bears occupied the next two spots as Capeling finished second in 17:06.5 and Farber was third in 17;34.4.
Behind them, Abell got seventh place in 17:49.1 and Morak was ninth in 18:08.2, with Gratien getting to 13th place in 18:27.5. Isaac Czarnecki was 18th (18:49.7) and Justin Fukes earned 21st place in 19:03.3, closely followed by Devlin Cameron (23rd, 19:18.8), Abram Czarnecki (27th, 19:35.9), and Dylan Price (28th, 19:36.3) followed.
