In the wake of her Small School Divisions victory in the Sept. 24 Baldwinsville Invitational, Julia Willcox continued to set the pace for the Skaneateles girls cross country team.
During the Lakers’ win over Pulaski last Wednesday afternoon, Willcox pulled away for a first-place time of 20 minutes, 30 seconds. She was more than a minute ahead of teammate Maddy Brogan, who was second in 21:34.
Natalie Condon, in 21:45, completed a 1-2-3 Skaneateles sweep ahead of Pulaski’s Ruthie Van der Heide (23:11) in fourth place. The Lakers’ Chloe Metz (24:02) beat out Georgia McSwain (24:07) for sixth place, with Nicole DeRosa seventh in 25;32 and Addison Gremli in 10th place.
Pulaski did beat Skaneateles 21-35 in the boys race, with the Lakers’ Tyler Lewis finishing third in 18:04, edging out Calvin Blackwell (18:05) for that spot behind the Blue Devils’ duo of Dan Hefti, who won in 17:40, and Ryan Morrissette, who was second in 17:55.
Three more Pulaski runners – Riley Hathaway (18:21), Rian Leaf (18:26) and Devon Pollic (18:27) – crossed the line before other Lakers runners would do so. J.W. Simmons finished eighth, in 18:29, with Ben Blackwell ninth in 19 minutes flat.
