Three area cross country teams gathered together last Tuesday, with Marcellus, Westhill-Bishop Ludden and Solvay all part of a single OHSL Liberty division meet, with wildly varying results.
The boys Mustangs would pull away from the Warriors and, sweeping the top five, prevail 15-47, while also handling the Bearcats as Westhill-Ludden, splitting its portion of the meet, handled Solvay 15-50.
Matt Strempell claimed the individual race for Marcellus, finshing in 16 minutes, 14 seconds, just ahead of Sean Raymond, who was second in 16:19. Ethan Mosure got to third place in 16:22, edging out Joe Riccardi (16:24) as Michael Brown gained fifth place in 16:28.
Though Westhill-Ludden had Jake Suddaby finish sixth in 16:30 and Dan Washburn gain eighth place in 16:40, the Mustangs’ depth continued to show. Michael Welch was seventh, in 16:38, just ahead of Andrew Marsh (16:41) in ninth place as Grayson Hoag finished in 16:53.
In the girls meet, Westhill-Ludden reversed the standings in the boys meet and dominated the proceedings, prevailing 17-49 over Marcellus and 15-50 over Solvay, with the Mustangs defeating the Bearcats to salvage a split of its meet.
Westhill-Ludden’s Liz Kessler won the individual race in 18 minutes, 32 seconds, part of a top-three Warriors sweep as Alaina Kenny got second place in 18;42 and Haylei Coolican finished third in 18:50. Maura McAnaney was fourth in 19:11 and Kendra MacCaull got sixth pllace in exactly 20 minutes.
Liliana Cushman finished fourth for Marcellus in 19 minutes flat, with Morgan Gould seventh in 20:05 and Crystal Silliman eighth in 20:10. Solvay’s Jordyn Willsey made her way to the top 10 as she posted a time of 20:27.
A day later, Jordan-Elbridge hosted Skaneateles and CBA for another three-team meet, and the Eagles swept in on the boys side, routing the Lakers 17-44 and also earning a 21-38 victory over the Brothers.
Other than CBA’s Dominic Morganti prevailing in 17:06, J-E’s boys swept the top five. Hunter Brunelle finished second, in 17:30, with Hugh Schader third in 17:45. Ethan Kinney was fourth (17:52) and Matt Sheldon was fifth in 17:57 as Logan Kinney (18;03) and Sean Dristle (18:06) also had top-10 efforts.
On the girls side, J-E lost to CBA 20-37, but defeated Skaneateles 26-37, and it happened even though a Lakers runner, Juila Willcox, claimed the individual race in 19:07.
J-E’s Theresa Dristle finished fourth, in 19:45, behind CBA teammates Lexi Kyle (19:26) and Cory Knox (19:27). But Mary Elizabeth Dristle finished sixth in 20:06 as the Dristle sisters and Madison Daly, who was ninth in 20:36, beat the Lakers’ second runner, Natalie Condon, who was 10th in 20:37.
