With its run of OHSL Liberty division meets about to get underway, the Skaneateles cross country teams had another large-scale race to get through.
That was the East Syracuse Minoa Invitational, held last Saturday at Pine Grove Middle School, where the girls Lakers would finish sixth in a 16-team field, earning 154 points, just behind fifth-place Cazenovia (145 points). Jamesville-DeWitt took top honors with 86 points.
Julia Willcox just made into the top 10 among individual runners, needing 20 minutes, 16.3 seconds to grab that 10th spot over Harley Allendale Columbia’s Eileen Reinhardt (20:20.1), though everyone trailed Tully eighth-grader Brooke Rauber, who won in 18:40.3.
Natalie Condon earned 13th place for the Lakers in 21:09.8, while Maddy Brogan finished 22nd in 21:41.2. Morgan Dodds had a 53rd-place time of 24:27.9, three spots ahead of Chloe Metz (24:36.2), with Georgia McSwain (24:55.4) and Nicole Derosa (25:28.7) trailing.
Moving to the boys version of the ESM Invitational, Skaneateles had 285 points to finish 13th, far from a furious race at the top where Fulton, with 82 points, held off host ESM (87 points) and Vestal (88 points) to prevail.
Calvin Blackwell was the Lakers’ fastest runner on this day, needing exactly 19 minutes, 16 seconds to grab 40th place, one spot ahead of Tyler Lewis, who was exactly one second behind in 19:17 flat.
Elsewhere for Skaneateles, Joe Capozza earned 66th place in 20:14.1, running together with Alex Wulff, who was 67th in 20:14.4. J.W. Simmons got to 71st place in 20:23.9 and Alex Vanriper was 74th in 20:41.4.
In that OHSL Liberty opener on Wednesday, Skaneateles visits Jordan-Elbridge in a three-team meet with CBA, all of this before going to Saturday’s Baldwinsville Invitational.
