With a new high school gymnastics season underway, Jamesville-DeWitt/F-M is already in the win column, and the likes of Taylor Fishkin, Rachel Wells and Ana Dieroff helped in the cause.
J-D/F-M defeated Baldwinsville 138.15-126.35 in last Monday night’s season opener, and Fishkin earned 36.6 all-around points. She won three of the four apparatus events, scoring 9.4 with her floor exercise routine, adding a 9.1 on the vault and 9.0 on uneven bars.
Only on balance beam did Dieroff finish second, her 8.6 topped by Dieroff, who won with 9.0. Dieroff also had a 9.2 on the floor, while Wells, who had 32.4 all-around points, scored 8.1 on the vault.
Mia Potamianos chimed in with an 8.8 on the vault, with Rylee Fishkin netting 8.7 on uneven bears. B’ville’s Madison Brooks had 33.0 all-around points that included a 9.2 floor routine and 8.5 on uneven bars.
Just 24 hours later, J-D/F-M encountered New Hartford, and it proved close and tense all the way to the end before the Spartans, with 141.80 points, edged J-D/F-M (140.75 points) by 1.05 points at the end of a long night of competition.
Taylor Fishkin was the all-around champion, though, notching 36.55 points that included a win on the uneven bars with 9.15. She also scored 9.5 on the vault and 9.2 on the beam, yet was still beaten in those events by New Hartford’s Jensen Todd as Wells scored 9.2 on the beam and Rylee Fishkin getting 8.3 on uneven bars.
Before that, East Syracuse Minoa/Liverpool began its season Sept. 8 with a three-team meet where it scored 119.05 points to beat Utica Proctor, but finish behind New Hartford’s total of 143.5 points.
