Now the fight in the CNY Counties League is set, at least on the regular-season side of it, with Baldwinsville’s boys golf team right in the mix for the league title alongside the likes of Fayetteville-Manlius and West Genesee.
The Bees and Cicero-North Syracuse’s Blue team would square off Thursday afternoon at Timber Banks. It was the team’s third match in a 48-hour span, but instead of showing fatigue, the Bees were in good rhythm and put away the Northstars 203-209.
Maxwell Dec, shooting a 37, led B’ville’s efforts. Though C-NS Blue had some solid rounds, it could not quite keep up with the Bees as Ben Donahue, Zach Ravas and Trevor Tooked offered ample support to Dec, each of them posting a 41.
Staying in first place required winning the matches the Bees were supposed to win, such as Tuesday’s tilt with the combined Syracuse City team, where B’ville earned the top five individual scores in a 196-226 victory at Drumlins.
Ryan Fecco led the way, shooting a 35, one better than Tim Garraffo’s total of 36. Tooke had one of his best rounds of the season, finishing with a 40 as Dec and Donahue both had 4e to match the low round by Syracuse teammates Jack Kane and Seth Lee.
B’ville then defeated Liverpool 190-235 on Wednesday afternoon at Timber Banks. Windy conditions didn’t keep the Bees from posting the five lowest individual rounds, with Fecco at the forefront as he shot a two-under-par 34.
Donahue nearly matched par, finishing with a 37, and he had good company as Dec posted a 38 and Garraffo’s steady efforts continued with a 39. All of them, along with Ravas (who shot a 42), beat out the 43 posted by Liverpool’s top golfer, Kenneth Krafft.
The win over C-NS Blue left the Bees at 6-1 going into a key match Tuesday against West Genesee, a team it beat by two shots, 198-200, late in August at Westvale in Camillus. Then B’ville faces C-NS’s Green squad two days later.
