Returning from a long Labor Day weekend, the Skaneateles girls tennis team immediately ran into a test from Manlius-Pebble Hill, but did enough to push past the Trojans by a 4-3 margin.
The Lakers nearly got a singles sweep. Having seen Erica Byrne defeat Lauren Morrow 6-3, 6-2 and Alex Ditch get past Annie Weiss 6-3, 6-1, Skaneateles had Rachel Feeney in front of MPH’s Grace Walsh, but that lead didn’t hold as Walsh prevailed 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Hope Allyn and Lily Datz earned a crucial point in doubles, beating Parmees Fazeli and Genevieve Morrow 7-5, 6-2. And the clinching point came in third doubles where Biver and Brinley Walawender made their own comeback for a 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 win over Hannah Ebner and Amina Kilpatrick.
In another doubles match that went to three sets, Angela Krause and Meg McNeil took a 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 defeat to Sophie Novak and Anna Szombatha. Isabella Kroon and Hope Glowacki had a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Lily Grenis and Halle Erwin.
It proved easier for the Lakers in Friday’s 6-1 victory over Jordan-Elbridge. with Byrne, Feeney and Ditch not dropping a game in any of their three singles matches. Krause and Mcneil lost in doubles, 7-5, 6-1, to Miranda and Marissa Malvaso, but Allyn and Datz prevailed in straight sets.
Skaneateles has three more matches this week, including a rematch with Pulaski, plus clashes against Phoenix and Chittenango.
