WG, Westhill tennis earn wins

One more time, the West Genesee boys tennis team will get an opportunity to deal with Fayetteville-Manlius and its 18-year, 260-plus match win streak – but it wouldn’t happen in the first week of May since rain forced a postponement of last Friday’s match between the Wildcats and Hornets.

Just before that, WG met Syracuse East last Thursday afternoon and won a 7-0 decision, with Alex Argiro playing first singles and beating John Hso 6-2, 6-1. Nick Bentley defeated Ehomoemo Qui 6-1, 6-3, while Chris Upwood got a 6-2, 6-0 win over Tang Moan Lian.

Heading the doubles run, Connor McGuigan and James Plunkett beat Robert Collier and Rich Llanos 6-0, 6-0. Pat Copeland and Stefan Anatasov had a 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) win over Nick Lozaponi and Samir Subba, with John Northrop and Jimmy Harter defeating Muhialdain Muhialdain and Hanh Duong 6-4, 6-4. Also in straight sets, Ryan Joyce and Brandon Hale got past Matt O’Neil and Mike Gadzilla 6-2, 6-2.

Following last Monday’s rainouts, local sides resumed last Tuesday, with Westhill getting the jump as it relied on a pair of three-set decisions to earn a 4-1 victory over the Manlius-Pebble Hill Trojans.

Jackson Bradley got a singles point with a tough 6-4, 6-4 win over Keerthi Martyn, but Andrew Doner lost to Charlie Mann 6-2, 6-2. To break the singles tie, Sabastian Ramirez needed to rally from an early deficit in first singles to beat Trilok Reddy 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.

It was the same in third doubles, where Noah and Ryan Rolince had to make a comeback for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over Zhao and Jeff Bush, with Chaddock and Colin Catone prevailing in two sets.

At least Westhill got in a match in between raindrops. Marcellus did not, seeing contests with CBA and Cazenovia pushed back to this week.
