Onondaga — Wins by Evan Donhauser, Hailey Couchman and Adrianna Straughter were part of the Baldwinsville indoor track and field team’s efforts in the Section III Class AA championships held Wednesday night at SRC Arena.
On the team side, the boys Bees fared a bit better, getting third place with 61 points behind Liverpool (107 points) and Cicero-North Syracuse (94 points), while on the girls end B’ville had 40.33 points to finish sixth in a field led by Fayetteville-Manlius, who won with 108.5 points.
Donhauser again won a close 55-meter hurdles battle with C-NS’s Ed Mahana, prevailing in 7.91 seconds to Mahana’s 7.96, with Nate Cutie seventh in 9.38 seconds.
In the 4×400 relay, the Bees were second as Tyler Luciano, Evan Vannatta, Greg Porceng and Kieren Sheriden earned a time of 3:36.55, trailing only C-NS”s winning 3:33.07.
Sheriden contended in the 300-meter dash, his time of 37.81 seconds behind only Rome Free Academy’s Bradley Dougherty, who won in 37.50 seconds, and he paired with Donhauser, Brandon Brown and Austin Catalano to finish fourth (1:39.54) in the 4×200 relay.
Denis Keegan went 1:29.42 in the 600-meter run and jumped up to third place, with Vannatta eighth in 1:32.03. Ethan Craig gained fifth place in the 1,000-meter run in 2:40.75, while Ryan Delola was eighth in the 3,200-meter run in 10:17.10 before helping Craig, Keegan and Adam Davis take fourth place in the 4×800 relay in 8:40 flat.
In field events, Mike Lagana cleared 10 feet 6 inches in the pole vault, gaining third place, while Nate Jaquint was third in the high jump by topping 5’8” and Catalano was third in the triple jump with a best attempt of 39’9 ¾”. Judson Fletcher had a sixth-place shot put throw of 44’1 ¾”, while Luciano got eighth place in the long jump, going 17’6”.
continued — On the girls side, B’ville twice prevailed in field events, thanks to Couchman and Straughter. In the long jump, Couchman dazzled, going 17 feet 2 ¼ inches, nearly a foot ahead of the runner-up, F-M’s Cady Barns, who went 16’2 ¾”.
Meanwhile, in the high jump, Straughter and Liverpool’s Megan Milazzo both cleared 5 feet, but Straughter did so with fewer misses and earned the victory, with Couchman tying for fourth as she topped 4’8” and Kourtnee Allen in 11th place.
Anna Miller and Brina Edmonds combined for 10 more points in the shot put, Miller getting third place with a throw of 30 feet 4 ¼ inches as Edmonds, with a toss of 27’7 ½”, got fourth place, each of them behind C-NS’s Kierrah Butler, who won with 36’5”.
B’ville also contended in the 4×400, where Anna Demer, Tina Bartelli, Katie Wicks and Kelley Hull finished third in 4:13.08, close behind C-NS (4:11.41) and West Genesee (4:12.15). Madison Dickter, Mia Bolton, Patricia Conlan and Sarah Rodman were fifth in the 4×800 in 10:39.67.
Wicks finished seventh (1:46.17) in the 600, while Bartelli was seventh in the 300 (44.46 seconds) and Hull had an eighth-place time of 5:02.60 in the 1,500-meter run. Demer, Hannah Klaben, Katherine Siddall and Katie Weaver were seventh in the 4×200 relay in 1:55.92.
