Baldwinsville — With one more chance to perform in front of a home crowd at the Baker High School pool, the Baldwinsville boys swim team handled it well, dominating all of the early races and piling up points to beat Syracuse 51-36 last Wednesday night.
It all started with the 200-yard medley relay, where many of the Bees’ familiar names contributed. Daniel Watkins, Kevin Atkinson, Ryan App and John Sidorakis paired up and, in a time of one minute, 51.49 seconds, took the top spot.
Watkins went from there to a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle in 24.44 seconds, while Sidorakis was second in 25.36 seconds. App, meanwhile, went to the 100 butterfly and, in 1:06.84, took that race over Atkinson, who finished in 1:08.44.
Jonathan Oad was victorious in the 200 freestyle in 2:01.98, while Mark Dickson was second in 2:09.25. A closely-fought 200 individual medley included Brandon Formoza, who needed 2:21.84 to fend off John Licciardello (2:22.53) by less than a second.
Ryan Hiltbrand, a cornerstone of the Bees’ success all season, had a top time of 54.86 seconds in the 100 freestyle ahead of Formoza (55.32 seconds), with Jamus Socker able to go 5:57.46 to win the 500 freestyle, with Ryan Lioy second.
B’ville finished its regular season at 7-1, second to Liverpool in the CNY Counties League. The Bees now prepare for the Feb. 11 Section III Class A championships at Nottingham High School, with the overall sectional meet and state qualifier set for Feb. 13, also at Nottingham.
