For the Mohawk Valley Indoor Track Association championships on Friday night, the venue shifted from Colgate University’s Barton Hall to the brand-new Hutton Dome on the campus of Utica College, but the result for the Cazenovia girls was familiar – first place.
The Lakers won the MVITA Division I championship, earning 174 points to pull away from runner-up Rome Free Academy, who had 136 points. Cazenovia also was third in the boys Division I meet with 85 points, while Chittenango was fourth (67 points) as RFA, with 167 points, finished on top here.
Cleaning up in distance races, the girls Lakers started with Meggie Hart going 10 minutes, 39.76 seconds to beat the field in the 3,000-meter run, with Adrien Owens (12:06.57) sixth.
Then Cazenovia swept the top three in the 1,000-meter run, where Clara Rowles won in 3:13.86, pulling away from Maddie Langey (3:33.83) and Hope King (3:38.24), who were second and third, respectively.
