Onondaga — Each time the Skaneateles Lakers go to Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena for CNY Indoor Track Association meets, it seems to pick up more respect –and confidence, too.
During the morning session of Saturday’s George Constantino Memorial Invitational, the Lakers rose all the way to second place on the girls side, earning 62 points, a number only Fayetteville-Manlius (101.33 points) could top.
What’s more, the Skaneateles boys also moved up the standings, making it to fifth place with 36.5 points, not far from CBA (49 points), Central Square (46 points) and Oswego (43 points) in the standings as, again, F-M won, this time with 84 points.
Skaneateles went 1-2 in the girls 300-meter dash, seeing Maddie Peterson take the top spot in 43.34 seconds, edging out teammate Mia Grasso (43.35 seconds) by one-hundredth of a second. Julia Willcox would claim the 1,000-meter run in 3:07 flat, nearly two seconds better than F-M’s Jenna Farrell (3:08.88) in the runner-up spot.
Grasso, paired with Christiana Ciaccio, Brady Iles and Olivia Gage, got to second place (4:24.44) behind F-M (4:19.16) in the 4×400 relay, while in the 4×200 relay Gage, Laurel Parker, Amanda Wetmore and Angela Krause finished in 1:53.01, a close second to CBA’s 1:52.55. Willcox, Jillian Van Leer, Finan Malcolm and Emily Norris were third in the 4×800 relay in 11;22.81.
Krause went on to take third place in the long jump, going 15 feet 4 inches. Wetmore (7.78 seconds) and Parker (7.87 seconds) were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 55-meter dash, with Wetmore also eighth in the long jump behind Krause.
Malcolm was seventh in the 1,500-meter run in 5:35.39, while Van Leer was 11th in the 600-meter run in 1:59.70. Iles was 12th in the 55-meter hurdles. Anna Neuenschwander and Nieve Morse were 11th and 12th, respectively, in the pole vault.
continued — Moving to the boys side, Tommy Hagen was victorious in the long jump, as his top leap of 20 feet 4 ¾ inches was enough to fend off Oswego’s Dawson Izyk (20’2 ½”) and grab that top spot. Jack Kimm was fourth with a leap of 19’6 ½”.
Elsewhere, Kimm went 39.79 seconds in the 300 sprint, earning second place behind Auburn’s Kobe Vandyne (39.50 seconds) as Josh McCabe was eighth in 40.82 seconds. Luke Rathgeb was third in the 1,000 in 2:54.35, with Hagen fourth in the 55 sprint in 7.02 seconds. Luke Palmer cleared 5’4” for fifth place in the high jump, where Hagen got seventh place.
McCabe, Palmer, Noah Cliff and Brahm Malcolm were fifth in the 4×200 in 1:44.70. Sam McClintic, Steve Ciaccio, Ryan Willcox and Max Moss were sixth in the 4×400 in 4:12.07. Individually, McClintic needed 5:13.69 to grab ninth place in the mile, while Malcolm gained 10th place in the 55 hurdles and Kevin Danaher was 10th in the shot put.
