CENTRAL NEW YORK – Everything for area high school boys golfers with a fall schedule leads to the series of Section III fall tournaments that take place next week.
Prior to that was a busy homestretch where two regular-season titles were at stake, and Skaneateles earned, by far, the biggest win of its undefeated fall.
Hosting 13-0 Christian Brothers Academy hursday at Skaneateles Country Club, the Lakers got the two low rounds of the day and enough support to defeat the Brothers 223-231.
Drew Mancini’s 38 and Jack Marquardt’s 39 provided a cushion when only one CBA player, Jack Gregory, did better than 45, Gregory posting a 42.
But with the rest of the Brothers between 45 and 49, Skaneateles still needed Will Murphy to shoot 47, Graham Bradley to post 49 and Charlie Girzadas get a 50 to hang on.
This great week started last Monday when Skaneateles turned back 11-1 Tully 197-227. In a close race at the top, Marquardt and Murphy both shot 38, with Girzadas and Mancini both posting 40. Bradley and Finlay Coyne each had 41 ahead of the 42 by the Black Knights’ Nate Melton.
Then, making it 10 in a row on Wednesday, the Lakers defeated LaFayette 206-242 at Orchard Valley. Mancini, with a 37, edged Marquardt (38), Girzadas adding a 40 as Murphy posted a 43 and Christian Cirincione stepped up to shoot 48.
And after it knocked off CBA, the Lakers beat Hannibal 194-231 on Friday at Stone Creek Golf Club, led by a 37 from Marquardt. Three others – Mancini, Bradley and James Lovier – each shot 39, with Coyne contributing a 42.
West Genesee Gold saw its hopes for the Wildcats take a hit last Wednesday when it faced Cicero-North Syracuse Blue at Arrowhead Golf Course and lost, 203-210, to the Northstars.
Parker Berg shot a 40, but three C-NS Blue golfers matched or bettered that score, led by Drew Kippen’s 37. Jason Clifton and Jon Shoults both shot 41 as Ben Glass and Frank Barbuto had matching totals of 44.
WG Gold got a 187-226 victory over Baldwinsville’s younger White team last Monday at Westvale. Jameson Bard’s 35 beat Barbuto (37), withGlass and Jack Einlich each posting 38 and Nick Stemkoski adding a 39.
These same teams met again Thursday at Timber Banks and, again, the Wildcats won, this time 197-213. Glass matched par with a 36, helped by 39s from Clifton and Berg as Barbuto had a 41 and Ashton Fassinger a 42.
WG Blue earned a victory Friday over B’ville White 204-217, with Topher Shoults’ 38 the low round. Andrew Banish and Jonathan Lape both had 41s as Lincoln Christopher and Colin Straub both posted 42.
Westhill turned back Cortland 204-229 last Tuesday afternoon, led again by Danny Young, who shot 36. Christian Loomis had a 39, with Teddy DeMore (41) and Grady Pens (42) completing a top-four sweep and Tripp Sauer adding a 46.
Then, in Thursday’s 226-269 win over Jordan-Elbridge, Todd Owens led Westhill, his 43 one ahead of 44s from both Pens and the Eagles’ Emerson Derby. Young, with a 46, tied teammate Jack Carruth as Evan Chaddock shot 47.
J-E began its week with a 201-233 loss to Cazenovia at Millstone. Caden Hearn’s 40 tied for third as David Lawless shot a 41. Jeff Stevens, with a 49, beat out Noah Spilberg’s 50.
Marcellus began the last week of its fall season debut by defeating Mexico 228-267. Ben Reome’s 38 at Sunset Ridge beat out a 40 from John Williams. Jack Paine tied for third with a 49 and Dietger Steigerwald added a 50 in front a 51 from Christ Loveless.
Then the Mustangs had its own match with Tully last Tuesday and lost, 218-222, to the Black Knights, though it did beat Phoenix’s total of 252.
Will Glass led all individuals with a 40, two ahead of Williams and Tully’s Tristan Hendricks. But four other Black Knights matched or topped the 45s from Reome and Steigerwald as Loveless and Paine both shot 50.
Rebounding on Thursday, Marcellus beat Phoenix 229-265, with Glass putting up a 38, well clear of the 45s from Williams and Loveless. Reome added a 50.
