The following is a letter from Superintendent Eric Knuth concerning the decision for the Skaneateles school district to move to remote learning starting Dec. 4.
“In response to a concerning increase in COVID-19 infections across the district, as well as a significant increase
in associated orders of quarantine for students, faculty and staff, we will be shifting to remote instruction K-12
tomorrow 12/4/2020,” the letter said.
In his letter, Knuth said data is always changing, but the following is data collected this week according to the letter.
At Waterman 54 students are in quarantine, 6 staff are in quarantine and there is 1 COVID-19 positive cases.
At State Street 6 students are in quarantine along with four teachers and there are zero positive cases according to the letter.
At the middle school there are 28 students and three teacher in quarantine and three positive cases.
And at the high school there are 64 students in quarantine, 14 teachers and 19 positive cases according to the letter.
In person classes are tentatively scheduled to resume 12/14/2020. We will watch new infection data closely
throughout the coming week and make an informed decision once the safety of returning to live instruction can
be determined, the letter said.
“Please note that Wednesday 12/9/2020 is our staff development day,” Knuth wrote. “While there will be no classes in session this day for students, our professional development for faculty and staff will continue as scheduled. Building Principals will be reaching out individually with specifics regarding remote learning expectations. While we regret any inconvenience or disruption this causes your family in the coming week, the safety of our school community will always remain our priority.”
