Each of Baldwinsville’s track and field team was at home Wednesday afternoon, dealing with the wind, cold temperatures and precipitation, as well as West Genesee, with vastly different results.
It proved just fine for the boys Bees, who got double wins from Evan Donhauser and Arden Kellner and proceeded to rout the Wildcats by a score of 119-22 at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium.
Donhauser, in short order, claimed the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.2 seconds and then ran the 100-meter dash in 12 seconds flat, winning there, too.
As for Kellner, he went from a time of 2:25 in the 800-meter run to a much longer victory in the 3,200-meter run in 10:10 flat, with Joey Frink working in between those distances, winning the mile in a clocking of 5:02.5.
B’ville, in fact, swept all of the races on the oval. Evan Vannatta went 53.2 seconds in the 400-meter dash, with Sam Smith going 1:01.5 for a victory in the 400 hurdles.
Kellner and Vannatta, paired with Brennan LaQue and Denis Keegan, took the 4×800 relay in a season-best 8:54.6. Donhauser, Martin Sak, Austin Catalano and Tyler Luciano won the 4×100 in 47.5 seconds, with LaQue, Vannatta, Kieran Sheridan and Andrew Carter winning the 4×400 in 3:43.1.
Moving to field events, Catalano unleashed a top triple jump of 36 feet 4 inches. Dan Shorney cleared 9’6” to win the pole vault, while Nate Jaquint was first in the long jump (18’2”) and Kevin Niedzwicki topped 5’4” in the high jump.
The girls Bees lost, 81-60, to the Wildcats, seeing Valerie Pirro pace WG with three wins in the 100 hurdles (17.8 seconds), 400 hurdles (1:09.9) and triple jump (30 feet 2 inches), while Carly Benson took the 800 (2:23.5) and 1,500 (5:15.4) meter events.
But each of the B’ville teams would make some headway during Friday’s Chittenango Invitational, where the boys finished seventh with 28 points and the girls claimed ninth place with 23 points.
Vannatta, Sak, Carter and LaQue were second (3:52.64) to Cazenovia (3:47.93) in the 1,600 sprint medley relay, with the Bees also seventh in the 4×100. Later, in the 4×400, LaQue, Vannatta, Carter and Sheridan finished third in 3:37.70.
Donhauser needed 16.05 seconds to grab third place in the 110 high hurdles, while Kenny Stehle was fourth in the 400 hurdles (1:03.27) and Ryan Delola was fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:06.18.
Ethan Plouffe got fifth (103’2”) in the discus, with Catalano eighth in the triple jump. Kellner took ninth in the Fleet Feet Mile in 4:39.03, with Dan Conlan 11th as Keegan got eighth in the 3,200.
During the girls meet, Haleigh Jaquint had the best finish, going 33’1 ¾” in the triple jump to finish second to Fayetteville-Manlius’ Christabel Ezidiegwu, who won with 36’4”.
Katie Wicks made it to third place in the 400 sprint in 1:03.18, with Rebecca Lawrence, Abigail Smith, Anna Demer and Lauren Brushingham fourth in the 4×100 in 55.47 seconds. Brittany LaRock cleared 7’6” to finish fourth in the pole vault.
Kayleigh Sattler got to sixth place in the pentathlon with 1,489 points and Marina Blasi made it to seventh place in the long jump (13’4 ½”), while Nadine Dickter and Mia Bolton were ninth and 10th, respectively, in the 2,000 steeplechase. In the Fleet Feet Mile, Marissa Lathrop was 10th (5:36.11), just ahead of Rachael Miller (5:37.48) in 11th place.
