As of election night, incumbent Manlius Town Supervisor Republican Ed Theobald is leading in the race against Democrat challenger Nancy Durkin with just over a 350 vote lead.
According to unofficial results from the Onondaga County Board of Elections, Theobald received 51.98 percent of the vote, or 4,570 votes, compared to Durkin, who got 47.98 percent, or 4,218 votes. There are at least 400 absentee ballots that could sway the election.
The odds are in Theobald’s favor, and he said he believes the results show the people of the town are happy with the way the town currently works.
“I want to say I think my opponent worked very hard and I give her a lot of credit,” Theobald said to the Eagle Bulletin election night. “I think that unfortunately everyone thought this was a national level race and this proves again that the voters said, ‘No, this is local.’ …The taxpayers spoke and they like what we [Republicans] do. They’re happy with what we’re doing.”
“At a local level, someone like Sara [Bollinger] winning, it’s not because of national, it’s because she worked locally and people know her,” Theobald said.
Durkin said she is holding out until all of the ballots are counted.
“I’m just so excited that so many people came out to support me…We’re waiting until all of the votes are counted,” said Durkin.
In addition three town councilor positions were up for election. Democrat Sara Bollinger, incumbent Republican Karen Green and incumbent Republican Vince Girodano have leads in town councilors races over incumbent Republican David Marnell and Democrat Patrick Donnelly. Bollinger received 4,590 votes, Green 5,040 votes, Giordano 5,121 votes, Marnell 4,307 votes and Donnelly 4,423 votes.
Incumbent Republican Robert O’Leary has prevailed in the Manlius Town Justice race against Democrat Tim McMahon with an unofficial vote of 4,729 to 4,000.
In the town clerk race, incumbent Republican Allison Weber held on to her position for another term with 56.7 percent of votes compared to Democrat challenger John Deer’s 43.2 percent.
Incumbent Republican Receiver of Taxes also kept her seat with 6,144 votes compared to Democrat challenger Elvis Mehmedovic, who got 2,577 votes.
In the only unopposed race, Highway Superintendent Robert Cushing has retained his seat for another term.
