On Dec. 31, more than a hundred Cazenovians welcomed the New Year at the 2019 Lincklaen Assembly — a “white tie & tails” formal evening of dinner and dancing at the Lincklaen House.
Named in honor of Cazenovia’s founder, John Lincklaen, the assembly has been an annual tradition for generations of Cazenovia residents and visitors.
“For many decades, the Lincklaen Assembly has ushered in the New Year with a festive evening of dining and dancing,” said Pam Ellis, the organization’s 2019 president/treasurer. “This year, 115 people enjoyed this joyous occasion at the Lincklaen House.”
According to a 1961 article in The Post Standard, the Lincklaen Assembly was held for many years leading up to World War II, at which point it was discontinued.
In 1956, a committee seeking to arrange a similar event planned a formal dance preceded by cocktails and dinner.
“This was so pleasant and successful that it was decided to form a permanent organization to be known as the Lincklaen Assembly,” wrote the newspaper contributor.
Open to members and their guests, the 2019 event was organized by a 16-member committee.
The celebration featured festive decorations; a receiving line; cocktails and passed Hors d’oeuvres; a multi-course dinner; music by The Neverly Brothers Band; and a balloon drop and champagne toast at midnight.
“We have so enjoyed being a part of such a longstanding and historic Cazenovia tradition,” said committee member Amy Mann. “It is always an elegant and lively evening and we love the ever-changing mix of both regular and new revelers ringing in the New Year together.”
