The Cazenovia Preservation Foundation (CPF) will celebrate 50 years in existence with a fundraising dinner event in early October.
The CPF Half-Century Dinner will be held Friday, Oct. 13, CPF at the new RedBarn20 event venue on Route 20 East in Cazenovia. The evening will begin at 7 p.m. with a cocktail hour and dinner will be served by The Brewster Inn. Entertainment by the band, Ontario, as well as a silent auction and a slide show of CPF projects.
Tickets are a $150 per couple and $80 for an individual.
The CPF was incorporated in 1967 as a not-for-profit for the express purpose of preserving historic buildings in the village. For the next 18 years, the organization’s board and volunteers provided education, historic registration and financial support to enhance the architectural history of the village.
CPF has published books and pamphlets on the history of Cazenovia and its architecture; has taken a lead role in working with the Trust for Historic Preservation to catalog, register and protect the architecture of the community; and has provided funds for the restoration of highly visible buildings such as the Gothic Cottage, Cazenovia College Theater and the New Woodstock Historical Society.
In 1985, CPF members expanded their view of preservation to include the countryside and farms surrounding the historic village with its purchase of land for trails. Conservation easements also became a tool to preserve privately owned open space and agricultural lands in perpetuity, or forever.
Guided by its mission of protection and the rigorous standards of national accreditation, the Cazenovia Preservation Foundation continues to support the blend of history, community and natural environment that combine to create Cazenovia’s desirable and unique sense of place. Now a half-century old, CPF monitors over 2,500 acres of protected property, 12 miles of trails, and seven architectural easements while also offering 20 annual educational events.
