February 1, 1917 — Three or four years ago, it will be recalled, the T.W. Thayer company decided to close their sash and door operation. After consideration however, of all factors involved it was later decided to continue the business in hopes that better times might enable the operation to show a profit.
By reason of the age of the buildings and of the fact that they are not located directly upon a railroad siding as well as because of the uncertainty of the supply of raw material, it has been found impossible to meet the competition of factories more modern and more favorably located.
It is well understood in the door manufacturing business that there has been little if any profit for manufacturers for the past ten years and any concern handicapped by unfavorable location or old buildings has had no chance whatever to operate at a profit.
For these reasons Thayer company has found it impossible to continue its operation at Cazenovia and as soon as orders now on its books are filled the plant will be closed.
The factory employs between seventy-five and one hundred men.
