Both of the Liverpool boys and girls track and field teams will make their way to Baldwinsville’s Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium to compete this Thursday in the CNY Counties League National division championship meet.
As it happened, the Warriors’ regular-season slate ended with a dual meet against Baldwinsville last Wednesday afternoon on that same track, and Liverpool dominated it, winning on the boys side 97-44 and rolling past the Bees 91-50 on the girls side.
Juliana Basla put on a career effort in the girls meet. First, Basla ran 1,500 meters in four minutes, 56.2 seconds, winning there, and then she took the 800-meter run in 2:23.4 before completing her sweep of the distance races by taking the 3,000-meter run in 11:07.6.
Ore Akinpelu was victorious in the 400-meter hurdles in a swift 1:04.8, while Yasmeen Griffin took the 400-meter dash under the one-minute mark in 59.7 seconds. Griffin also helped Danelle Sims and Morgan Chewning-Kulick as Liverpool won the 4×400 relay in 4:08.5.
Liverpool, in fact, won all three relays. Akinpelu, Sims, Tymaiah Harper and Amelia Johnson ran the 4×100 in 51.4 seconds as Chewning-Kulick, Jillian Stagnitta, Kristina Moore and Natalie Kurz went through the 4×800 in 10:55 flat.
Kelly Townley cleared 9 feet in the pole vault, prevailing there as Meghan Milazzo topped 4’9” in the high jump. JaNiece Gallishaw threw the shot put 29’8” as Erin Lavalley won the discus with a heave of 86’6”.
During the boys meet, Dylan McCarthy ran the mile in four minutes, 36.6 seconds before adding a victory in the 800 in 2:01.7. Ty Brownlow was first in the 3,200-meter run in 10:00.4.
Brandon Mayfield won the 100 sprint in 11.3 seconds and also claimed the 200 in 23.9 seconds, adding a third title in the long jump by going 18’9”.
Dan Muldoon won the 400 sprint in 51.4 seconds. Muldoon, McCarthy, Nick LeClair and Connor Buck roared through the 4×800 relay in 8:33.2 as Muldoon also helped LeClair, Peter Gonzalez and Michael Mahan win the 4×400 in 3:32 flat.
David Lewis earned another victory in the pole vault, clearing 11 feet, while Nate Guarente took first in the high jump by topping 5’6”. Donald Frost had a first-place triple jump of 37’2”.
Liverpool’s boys team went to Schenectady High School on Saturday for the 75th annual Eddy Meet and, once again, its 4×800 team stood out. Buck, LeClair, McCarthy and Muldoon finished in 7:54.96 and won that race over runner-up Smithtown East (7:56.94) by nearly two full seconds.
Ben Petrella was swift in the mile, his time of 4:22.89 beaten only by Greenwich’s Jeremy Spiezio (4:16.10) as McCarthy finished third in 4:23.85. Ty Brownlow took 10th place in the 3,200-meter run in 9:57.87, just ahead of Ryan Comstock’s time of 10:15.16, which put him in 14th place.
