On the evening of Friday, Sept. 9, the Baldwinsville Central School District will officially reopen Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting at 5:30 p.m. on the stadium’s new artificial turf field. The stadium was closed over the summer months in order to install the new field as well as new ADA compliant bleachers, a new press box, new energy-efficient lights, and a new long jump and triple jump event area.
The renovations were part of the district’s 2014 capital project, which voters approved in February 2014. The new field will allow the district’s teams to practice and compete in all types of weather on their home field, and physical education classes from Baker High School and Durgee Junior High School will use the turf as well.
The district’s award-winning marching band will also use the field for rehearsals and for its Sept. 17 home show.
“We are very excited to celebrate the completion of the stadium’s renovations with the entire Baldwinsville community,” said Matthew McDonald, acting superintendent. “This state-of-the-art facility would not have become a reality without our community’s support.”
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will kick-off the district’s first home football game of the season, which will be the first time that the Baldwinsville Bees play a home game on their own artificial turf field. The Bees will face West Genesee at 6:30 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the door for $1 for students and $2 for adults. The gates open at 5:30 p.m.
