Founded in 1978, the Cicero Historical Society (CHS) is located at 6453 State Route 31 on the site of the original Stone Arabia one-room schoolhouse, which was in use from 1864 to 1951. The contents of the schoolhouse have been perfectly preserved, giving the visitor a unique sense of life and education at that time. Also on site is an authentic 1800s log cabin, moved from the shores of nearby Oneida Lake and refurbished by our volunteers using historic methods.
In addition to these buildings, we have a museum and learning center where we have a number of permanent and temporary displays of artifacts related to life in early Cicero. Also, there are items related to more recent, but historically significant, events. We are open for visitors from noon to 3 p.m. every second Sunday, April through December (except for May, which is the third Sunday) as well as by appointment. We also have monthly Society meetings that are open to the public starting at 7 p.m. every third Wednesday from February through December. Dues are $10 a year to join.
Upcoming events include a perennial plant sale on from noon to 3 p.m. May 15 and an antique appraisal from noon to 3 p.m. June 12.
Officers for 2016: President Mallory Albert; Vice President Tony Borio; Secretary Chris Huxtable; Treasurer Ray Schader; and Assistant Treasurer Carol Borio.
