The warmest season sure does go past quickly.
The Liverpool Public Library will close its summer reading clubs with a pair of parties in the coming days.
The adult finale will be celebrated with a Full Moon Party, from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, on the Dinosaur Garden lawn. The evening will feature games, giveaways and munchies, as well as live music by the rock band Climbing Stars. At 8:22 p.m., everybody will turn their eyes to the sky for a good group look at the full moon rising. Tyler Beagle of CNY Observers and the Syracuse Astronomical Society will bring telescopes to help get the closest views. If the weather is bad, most festivities will move inside the LPL lobby; the band will be invited back to perform at a later date.
The children’s reading club finale will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, on the Dinosaur Garden lawn. Kids who’ve logged in their success during this summer of A Universe of Stories can enjoy ice cream floats, play games and take part in a gently used book exchange. A raffle will take place for the club’s grand prize basket, too. The event will move inside the LPL’s parking garage if the weather is bad.
Of course, the end of the summer reading clubs and the coming of autumn means everybody can get ready for the next season of great reading. Librarians would be happy to suggest books to patrons of all ages.
