Question: Pictured in the photo is the original building that was used as Palmer’s Diner. Do you know where it was located? What was the building’s original use?
Last week’s answer: The house pictured last week was originally a houseboat. It was owned by Mary Lee LaPiene and still sets on the shore of the Seneca River at the south end of what is now Baldwin Canal Park.
It is not known when it was built as a houseboat, but it was probably around the early 1900s. Mary lived there for many years. She was full of stories of Baldwinsville’s past. As a young woman she worked for the Williams Seed Company harvesting the aster seeds and getting them ready for shipping. Many old timers will remember her many stories and wit when she was a waitress at Palmer’s Diner.
Randy Burrows was the first person to call with a correct answer.
