Most people associate the work of a New York State Assemblyman as going to Albany to vote on the annual budget and pass laws and legislation. But for me, the role of an Assemblyman is about meeting the people I represent, being in the communities and neighborhoods where they live, work and play and making myself available directly to them to hear their concerns and ideas about how to make government work better. Another function of my district office is to organize and participate in community outreach events that give back to the different areas in my district.
Each year when the Albany legislative session is recessed at the end of June, my staff is busy coordinating a half dozen community events throughout my 129th district from my Volunteer Fair to the CNY Veterans Parade and Expo. This year we have added three additional events, all of which will take place in the Baldwinsville area. I hope you will find these events helpful and informative for you and your family, and I hope to see you there and get a chance to talk with you. The events are:
Community Resource Fair, noon to 6 p.m. July 13 at Ray Middle School
I am pleased to bring more than 50 government, health and social service agencies to your area for a day of free information and outreach. This includes the Unclaimed Funds booth by the Office of the New York State Comptroller, opioid prevention training, elder services, school programs and veterans’ agencies, to name only a few.
Red Cross blood drive, noon to 6 p.m. July 13 at Ray Middle School
Summer is a difficult time for the American Red Cross, as the blood supply often dips to critical levels. There is no need to call ahead — you can just stop by to donate blood, or if you would like to schedule a donation time, please call 428-9651.
Free electronics recycling event, 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Baldwinsville School District Complex
This free drop-off recycling event is promising to be a very popular one. A portion of the proceeds from the recyclables will benefit the Baldwinsville Marching Band. Please contact the Baldwinsville Village Police Department for directions. However, all cars will enter at Albert Palmer Lane and East Oneida Street. Items that will be accepted are: computers, televisions, small-scale servers, monitors, CPU keyboards and mice, fax machines, scanners printers, VCRs and DVD players, digital music players, electronic or video game consoles, typewriters, circuit boards, cell phones and audio/video (AV) equipment. Items that will not be accepted are: smoke/carbon monoxide detectors, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, alkaline batteries, broken CRT (tube televisions/monitors) or bare tubes, fluorescent lamps/bulbs.
If you have any questions about these events, please call my office at 428-9651. I look forward to seeing you in July.
