Voters in the Jamesville-DeWitt School District will brave today’s snowfall to vote on a $33 million capital project. The vote is scheduled for today (Tuesday, Dec. 17) from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the high school gym.
The project calls for improvements to all the schools in the district.
The schools and the district’s bus garage would all have upgrades including LED lighting, energy efficiency and energy management system improvements, and solar panel installations.
The high school would also introduce broadcast, media and studio renovations; classroom renovations; additional parking at Lyndon Fields; a new science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEAM) space; as well as roof and boiler replacements.
Jamesville Elementary would bring in public toilet room additions and gymnasium renovations.
The middle school would undergo pool repairs, window replacements and renovations to the locker room, toilet room, library-media center and cafeteria.
At Moses-DeWitt Elementary School, the existing entrance and main office suite would be reconfigured to create a secured point of entry into the school facility.
With the energy performance contract included in the capital project proposition, the district intends to reduce energy consumption, save on utility bills and enhance the educational environment at its schools.
“Behind it is an opportunity for us to reimagine how kids are learning, thinking about flexible learning spaces and providing students with the opportunity to organize themselves and learn in different ways,” Superintendent Peter Smith said.
The district aims for construction to be completed in December 2022.
Further coverage on the capital project and the vote will be included in next week’s edition of the Eagle Bulletin.
