The Studio in Art students at Wellwood Middle School annually participate in The Memory Project to create realistic portraits for children around the world who have become orphans, been neglected or disadvantaged. These students received photographs of orphaned children from Haiti. Using these photographs, the students created their portraits over several months. The finished works will be exhibited at Common Grounds the month of March.
After the exhibition, the portraits will be hand delivered to the children in Haiti as special gifts. The Wellwood students will in return be sent a video documenting the orphans receiving their portraits.
This year we have 40 pieces on display created in a variety of mediums: colored pencil, pastel, watercolor, charcoal, and digital drawings from ipads. The portraits will be sent to Haiti in April.
Wellwood has been participating in the project over the past 10 years; the portraits have been exhibited at Common Grounds since 2014.
