Cazenovia Community Preschool students officially have a new playground to enjoy — an achievement that was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week.
The new wooden play set features rope and metal ladders, a tire swing, a wooden bridge, a small rock climbing wall built into the landscape and a slide. Other features of the play area include a new “sound wall” made of metal pans and pots and other items mounted to a wooden fence that can be used to make music.
The playground project was spearheaded and coordinated by the CCP Playground Committee, which was comprised of board members Ashley Cinque, Kristin Bosch, Erica Barnes and Ciara Dougherty. A majority of the materials used and construction work on the new playground was donated by Todd Bennett, owner of Total Lawn Care in Manlius, who is a Cazenovia resident and father of a former CCP student.
“This was a great community effort between Todd and his employees and the entire CCP board,” said Board Chair Melissa Davis. “Everybody came together to revamp this whole backyard and make it a place where the kids can have fun, get exercise and use their imaginations.”
Davis said the project took about one year to bring from concept to fruition, with the work beginning in late spring and early summer of this year. The playground was paid for through fundraising and grant writing, including a $2,500 grant given by Community Bank and a $200 donation given by AmeriCU Credit Union.
Cazenovia Community Preschool, located at 49 Burton St., is a community funded preschool with classes for 2, 3 and 4 year-old children, as well as after-school enrichment program for students entering grades K through 4.
