John R. Stoecker, 92,of Georgetown passed away peacefully Friday, Nov. 17, 2023, at Crouse Community Center in Morrisville. He was a life-long resident of the Cazenovia area.
In his early years, John worked summer camp on Silver Lake where he taught horseback riding. Later he managed the equine stables at St. Lawrence University. A life-long animal lover, he managed Shadowbrook Kennels and owned his own dog grooming business. John worked many years at Lincoln Bank in Syracuse and retired from Continental Cordage Corporation.
John had many passions, one was animals, he was most proud of winning twice at Madison Square Garden’s International Dog Shows. He shared his love for the opera, classical music, and reading with his family and friends, he was a member of the Cazenovia Hunt Club, and various animal organizations. He was a communicant of St. James Church. John’s dry sense of humor and quick wit will be missed.
The family extends a thank you to Bob Straight and his family and Dean and Bonnie Slocum for their care, kindness and friendship to John over the years.
He is survived by a brother, Paul (Barbara) Stoecker and 27 nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial was held in St. James Church, Cazenovia. Burial was in St. James Cemetery.
