It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Sandra Elizabeth Ingersoll, our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. Sandy died peacefully in her sleep on June 26, 2023, at her home in Colorado Springs, CO, after a long battle with lupus.
Sandy was born Aug. 5, 1952 in Syracuse to Janet Short Ingersoll and Kenneth Ingersoll. She grew up in Baldwinsville, graduating from C.W. Baker High School in 1970. She attended the State University of New York at Canton for a year and then headed west to Colorado with her best friend.
She worked at Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs, earning an associate’s degree while she was employed there. She moved on to a job in the business department at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. She later had a long career at the university as its bursar and she also earned a bachelor’s degree in business.
Sandy retired in 2006 and devoted her early retirement years to her only grandchild, Matt. They spent summers doing a lot of swimming and exploring parks, animal rescues and animal sanctuaries. They traveled long distances to visit family and were always together at family events.
Every fall, after Matt returned home for the school year, Sandy continued with her hobbies of crocheting, sewing and gardening. One of her favorite pastimes was mixed Salsa dancing with a dear friend and neighbor, also named Sandy. Together they rode the bus from Colorado Springs to the casinos in Cripple Creek, where winning at the penny slots was great fun. Sandy also enjoyed hiking in that beautiful area.
Sandy is survived by her sons, Adam Norton of Englewood, CO, and David (Kelly) Norton of Northglenn, CO; grandson, Matt Norton of Englewood, CO; a brother, Terry (Susan) Ingersoll of Cochiti Lake, NM; a sister, Barbara (Ernie) Jackson of Hampton Bays, N.Y., and Goodyear, AZ; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were handled by Blunt Mortuary in Colorado Springs.
