L. Anthony “Tony” Nardella, 90, a lifetime resident of Manlius, died peacefully surrounded by his family at Crouse Hospital on May 31, 2023. He was born Aug. 15, 1932, the son of Michael and Rafaella Nardella. Tony graduated from Manlius Pleasant Street High School and from Niagara University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1955. He attended McGill University School of Dentistry in Montreal, Canada.
Tony served as 1st Lieutenant in the Army and then served in the National Guard. He began his 40 year career with Winthrop Laboratories, followed by Ciba-Geigy and then Schering-Pough and retired from Key Pharmaceuticals.
He was a founding father of Manlius Youth Basketball, Baseball and Pop Warner Football and coached many championship teams. He enjoyed hunting, his German Short Haired Pointers and fishing at his camp on DeRuyter Lake. He had a passion for antique automobile restoration, antique cars and antique clocks. Tony was an avid SU and Yankees fan. He was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Manlius and, for the past 25 years, Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville. He was a member of the Cazenovia Golf Club and the Cavalry Club.
His true love was his family. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Tony attended every activity of his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia A. Hicks Nardella; children, Peter (Margaret) Nardella of Cazenovia, Mark (Dr. Karen) Nardella of Manlius, Andrew P. (Gina) Nardella of Cazenovia, Rebecca (William) Ballard of Cazenovia and Cara (James) Killen of Glen Ridge, NJ; daughter-in-law, Bari Levin Nardella of Manlius; fourteen grandchildren; sister, Helen Young of Greenville, SC; and fifteen nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Louis and Nick Nardella and sister, Mary Terziev.
The family is most appreciative for Fairgrounds Physicians, the ICU Unit at Crouse Hospital, and all of his home care aides.
Calling hours were held at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville. The funeral Mass was offered at Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville. The Mass may be viewed at https://icfayetteville.org/funerals/
Burial with military honors was in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Fayetteville.
