Richard Allen (Dick) Adams passed away at his home in Skaneateles on Sept. 21, 2021. Born in 1929 to T. Virgil Adams and Catherine (Batz) Adams in Reading, PA. Dick grew up in Reading, where he found the love of his life and wife of 58 years, the late Beth Adele Merget.
Dick was educated at Reading High School and Albright College. During the mid-1950s, he served in the U.S. Army as a special agent in the Counterintelligence Corps. After his military service, Dick worked in publishing with Doubleday for the majority of his career.
Dick was a serious gardener. His Japanese style garden was visited by the National Conifer Society and the Master Gardener group from Cornell University. He was a voracious reader of military and political history and loved jazz from Bix to Bird. He was a lifelong fan of the Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Colts, switching his allegiances to the Buffalo Bills upon the Colts departure from Baltimore.
Affectionately known as Pappy, he and Beth cherished the time spent with their family at their home in Skaneateles.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife Beth and his son John Preston (Holly) and Son in law Patric Allen. He is survived by his children, Sallie Allen, of Pasadena, CA, Andrew (Mary Margaret), of Skaneateles, Amy (Jeff) Rich, of Minneapolis, MN and Arben (Maureen) Adams of Catonsville, MD, and his 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be private.
