Edward S. Little died Sept. 5, 2021, at the age of 81. He was a Syracuse area resident for all of his life, spending the last 20 years in Skaneateles. He graduated from Cheshire Academy and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in economics from Columbia University, and his Master of Business Administration from Syracuse University.
Ed was a booming figure whose presence was always felt, he lit up a room with his humor and wit. He was a dedicated husband, father and friend, often reaching out with advice and perspective with compassion. He led by example and embodied a strong work ethic and moral code. He was a pillar in his community, a devout Catholic and regularly participated in and gave to charities and causes that he believed in. Ed was a tackle on the Columbia football team, which won the only Ivy-League championship for his school in 1962. The friendships he fostered with his teammates and throughout his life have brought him deep joy and camaraderie over the years.
He began his career in the pharmaceutical industry and quickly became a highly accomplished entrepreneur, starting his own marketing research company. He always supported his wife and family in their endeavors in writing and publishing books, starting dotcoms and outdoor sports companies. Ed enjoyed an early retirement and maintained a home in Skaneateles while wintering initially in Scottsdale, AZ, and then Lakewood Ranch, FL. He found communities and friendships wherever he went, he was an accomplished artist, played golf often, and traveled extensively.
He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Jill; and survived by his son Bill Little (and wife Margaret, grandsons Webb, Sam, and Jack); daughters Deanna Mitzen (and grandchildren Emily, Nick, and Grace), and Kelly Arroyo (and husband Manuel, grandchildren August, Ella, and Magnus). He is also survived by his sisters Nancy Boynton and Mary Davitt and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11, in St. Mary’s of the Lake Church, Skaneateles. A luncheon will be held at The Sherwood Inn, gathering friends and family, following the services.
