Francis J. Straub, of Fayetteville, died on March 31, 2021. He was born in Syracuse in 1926, had lived in Fayetteville since 1954, and was a graduate of North High School and Syracuse University. He was married to his beloved wife, Margaret M. Straub (deceased), for 67 years. He was an electrical engineer with Consolidated Edison in New York City, Galson Engineers and retired after 35 years with Robson and Woese, Inc. in Syracuse as executive vice president.
He was involved in the electrical design of many prominent buildings including the original Hancock Field Terminal Building, Everson Museum of Art, Des Moines Art Museum, University of Rochester Student Union, Onondaga Community College, and many of the buildings at Syracuse University including Manley Field House, Physics Building, Newhouse, Biological Research Building and many of the dormitories. He was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and a former member of the City of Syracuse Board of Electrical Examiners.
He was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church, Fayetteville, where he designed their lighting and was a former member of their Parish Counsel. He was also a volunteer at the Samaritan Center, the Cathedral Center and the Boy Scouts of America.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served as an Electronic Technicians Mate on several ships stateside including the USS Nashville and the USS Chandeleur. He received the Victory Medal and the American Theatre Medal.
He is survived by his brother, Herbert B. Straub, Jr. (Geraldine J.) of Manlius.
He is survived by three daughters and a son: Catherine M. Jeffrey (Brian L.) of Brentwood, NH; F. Joseph Straub, Jr. (Mary A.) of Victor, N.Y.; Christine A. Reynolds (Scott J.) of Manlius, and Amy W. Dunlavey (James P.) of Syracuse.
He is survived by eight grandchildren: Joseph M. Straub of Victor, N.Y.; Lauren E. Carlyle, MD (Brent E., MD) of Manlius; Andrew C. Straub (Denitza I.) of Pittsford, N.Y.; Erik S. Jeffrey (Nicole) of Los Angeles, CA; Gregory S. Reynolds of Verona, NJ; Elizabeth R. Straub (Jon Hogrefe) of Rochester, N.Y.; Mark R. Jeffrey of Brentwood, NH, Matthew L. Staiano of Liverpool, and seven beloved great-grandchildren, Ben, Sam, Abby, Anna, Luke, Eva and Amelie.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 5, at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville. The funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 6, at Immaculate Conception Church, 400 Salt Springs St., Fayetteville.
