Marie (Judy) Amendola Zoeckler, loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away Dec. 1, 2020, after a brief illness at The Elderwood Nursing Home at the age of 96.
Judy was predeceased by Lou, her husband of 55 years.
She leaves behind seven children, their spouses, 18 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and her 101-year-old sister Jeanette.
Judy was born in Utica, N.Y., in 1924 to Oscar and Rose Amendola. She attended the University of Rochester and Ohio State University.
After college Judy moved back to Utica and joined a hiking club where she met Lou. They married in 1950 and moved to Cazenovia in 1953 where Judy became very active in Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, 4-H and other community organizations.
She was also an active communicant of St. James’ Church, where she was a member of the choir. Judy and Lou were members of the Tramp and Trail Club of Utica, ADK and the Sequoia Club. Judy loved nature, music and the arts. Her greatest passion was tending her beautiful flower gardens.
Judy was a world traveler and throughout their marriage she and Lou had the privilege to visit many national parks across the country.
Services and celebration of her life will take place at a future date at St. James’ Church in Cazenovia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Elderwood Resident Fund, c/o The Elderwood at Liverpool, 4800 Bear Road, Liverpool, NY 13088. Ayer and Zimmer Funeral Home, Cazenovia is in charge of arrangements.
