Timothy L. Ryan, 69, of Cazenovia, died peacefully at his home Saturday, May 11, 2019. Tim was born Feb. 7, 1950, the second youngest son of James L and Elizabeth Dwyer Ryan. He was a graduate of Cazenovia High School in 1968 and was known for his outstanding athletic achievements, lettering in four sports and the recipient of numerous awards, notably for football (New York State Upstate First Team 1967, Prep All American Hall of Fame Honorable Mention 1968 and inducted into the Cazenovia Central School District Hall of Fame in 2016). He attended Ithaca College on a football scholarship and graduated in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. Tim taught and coached at Lafayette High School and at Onondaga Nation School in Nedrow, and he was a former member of the Owahgena Hose Company of the Cazenovia Fire Department. Tim retired in 2001 following a stroke. Tim was an exceptional and loving father and brother, faithfully strong, fiercely independent and always sought his own direction in life.
Tim is survived by his daughter, Lindsay (Jerry) Ryan Anthony and his son, Matthew (Katie) Ryan; his sisters Barbara Bennett, Elizabeth McDermott, and Margaret (Pat) Clancy, his brother, James (Sue) and twin brother, Richard, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brothers Robert and John, and by his niece Molly Bennett.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 16, at St. James Catholic Church, 6 Green St., Cazenovia. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Michael E. Brown Funeral Services 2333 Fenner Road, Cazenovia.
