Bryan K. Burgess, 57, passed away unexpectedly at home on Oct. 19, 2017. He was a lifelong resident of Manlius. He was a graduate of Fayetteville-Manlius Schools in 1979 and received a degree in fire science and a certificate in drafting from Onondaga Community College.
He invented and patented several rescue tools. He loved Stickley mission furniture, collected arts and crafts era pottery, created stained glass pieces and enjoyed visiting lighthouses. He was always ready to drop whatever he was doing in order to help someone. He was a kind and gentle soul with a warm smile. He will be missed by more people than he would ever have imagined.
He is survived by his mother Ruth and sister Robin of Manlius; brother Todd (Judy) of Phoenix, AZ; sister-in-law Donna Merlau of Delmar, N.Y.; nephew Jeremy of Manlius, as well as nieces Lucia and Ginny and nephew Jonathon of Phoenix, AZ. He was predeceased by father Volney and brother Paul.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 11 at the new Manlius firehouse on the corner of Route 92 and Enders Road in Manlius. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Manlius Fire Department.
