Thomas N. Gerthoffer, 57, formerly of Fayetteville, Austin, TX, and recently Dallas, TX, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016, after a long battle with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Tracey Donoghue Gerthoffer; son, Cole Gerthoffer; daughter, Audrey Gerthoffer; mother, Edna van der Ven; and sisters, Julie Higgins (James), Joan Gerthoffer, and Carol Asiaghi (Anthony); uncle, Bernard P. (Judith) Gerthoffer; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his father, Norbert L. Gerthoffer.
Tom graduated from SUNY Cortland with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and later earned a Master of Business Administration degree from St. Edward’s University in Texas. He formed his own construction company while living in Austin, TX, specializing in new build Victorian style homes. Tom later worked in the executive offices of Yum/Pizza Hut in Dallas, TX before becoming a stay-at-home dad.
He was a fantastic father, an active volunteer in Boy Scouts and at his children’s schools. He taught Sunday School for many years at their church, Christ Church of Plano, TX. He was an avid hiker, taking meditative hikes in the Rockies once each summer. He was also a triathlete, competing in many events across the country. Thomas was a strong Christian and is now at peace with our Lord and Savior.
There will be a remembrance service at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 13s at St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum (original), St. Peter’s Chapel, 4100 E. Genesee St., DeWitt. The rite of Christian inurnment will be performed at noon.
