John Phillip O’Connor residing at the Loretto Community Residence at 5018 South Salina Street, Syracuse, died March 10, 2017, of cancer. He was born July 30, 1957 in Port Chester, NY. John was the son of Ann and Hayden O’Connor of Rye, N.Y. and Cazenovia. He was raised in Rye. He attended the University of Michigan and transferred to SUNY Purchase where he graduated with a degree in economics.
John worked as a paralegal at Dewey Ballantine Law Firm in New York City. He moved to Cazenovia in 1988 and later to Syracuse. He married Susan Voigt of North Syracuse. They were later divorced.
His passions were theater and trains. John was an active volunteer as a tech in many theater productions. He also traveled throughout the U.S. by train.
John is survived by a brother, Tom; a sister, Sheila; and two nieces, Sydney and Gillian. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on March 25 at Unity Church in Syracuse.
