Jean H. Porter, 83, passed away July 24, 2016, at Avante in Lynchburg, Va. She was born Sept. 19, 1932, in Syracuse. She was proceeded in death by her parents Elizabeth Robuar Hopstein and Albert F. Hopstein, her husband of over 60 years, Francis A. Porter, Jr., who passed away in February 2016, her brother Albert “Burt” Hopstein, her sisters Willa Hackett and Elizabeth “Betty” Rosenberger.
She was raised in Fayetteville. Later, after marriage, she moved to Cazenovia and lived on West Lake Road until 1998, then moved to the Raleigh, NC, area where she lived in Holly Springs.
She was always involved with horses. She worked at Cold Creek Stables with Ted Raulston in Fayetteville.
She would always attend the local horse shows to support her children when they were showing. You could find her on Saturdays and Sundays in the fall foxhunting with the Limestone Creek Hunt Club where she was a Whipper-In and later MFH.
She helped organize and establish the Lorenzo Driving Show.
Later, after moving to the Raleigh area, she helped DeDe with the driving horses, foxhunted and rode in many hunter paces. She was also involved with Jack Russells.
She is survived by three children, Dolores “Dede” Bushneck of Holly Spring, N.C., Scott Porter and wife Becky of Fuquay-Varina, NC, and Wendy Williams and husband Samuel of Lynchburg, Va; two grandsons, Joshua Porter and wife Annlouise of Sanbornton, N.H., and Christopher Bushneck and wif.e Cynthia of Charleston, SC; several neices, nephews and great -grand children.
Memorial service: 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, at Genesis Farms, 5836 Cass Holt Road, Holly Springs, NC 27540.
