Charles W. Jones, 81, of Cazenovia, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, Nov. 2, 2016, with his family by his side. He was born in Oneida, a son to the late William G. and Marie Jones and grew up in Cazenovia. Charles graduated from Cazenovia High School in 1954 and shortly thereafter joined the Cazenovia Fire Department. Later that year on Nov. 17, 1954, Charlie along with five of his friends enlisted into the U.S. Army. Upon his honorable discharge in 1956, he went to work with his father in the family masonry business. A year later, Charlie started his own company, C.W. Jones, Inc. which was an excavating business he operated until 1986. He was a lifetime member of the Cazenovia Fire Department having served as Chief from 1981–1983 and was a member of their Owagena Hose Company. Charlie was a co-owner of Jones Carr Wash during the 1980s and, in his spare time, he enjoyed boating.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, David Charles Jones, who died Jan. 25, 2011.
Mr. Jones is survived by two daughters, Susan (Lloyd) Lovely and Debi (Dan) Phinney both of Cazenovia; a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. John E. Jones and Carol Pierson Jones of Owego; five grandchildren, Lisa (Kyle) Hirt, Sara (Michael) Booth, Shain C. (Ashley) Emerson, Laura (Jason) Coon and Jeffrey Emerson as well as five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at Michael E. Brown Funeral Services, 2333 Fenner Road, Cazenovia. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Calling hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.., Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.
